How these numbers are made. Source: the AGSIST elevator network (dnilgis/bids), boards read directly; no third-party bid feed is used on this page. A bid counts only if its board was confirmed live on the latest read and its price was posted within 72 hours of the snapshot — long enough that a board unchanged over a weekend still counts on Monday. Specialty bids (white, organic, non-GMO, high-oleic, identity-preserved) are excluded. Medians and ranges are printed only with at least 3 elevators on the same futures contract. Prices are a snapshot as of Oct 6, 2026 8:10 AM CDT and will have moved since; call the elevator before you haul.

What basis is, in one paragraph

Basis is the local cash price minus the futures price it is quoted against: cash − futures, in dollars per bushel. It carries everything futures leave out — freight to the river, rail or processor that ultimately buys the grain, local supply and demand, storage space and the elevator’s margin. Inland elevators usually post a negative basis because grain has to be shipped toward an export port or a plant before it is worth the futures price, and that freight comes out of the bid. Basis tends to be weakest around harvest, when every bin fills at once, and to firm through winter and spring as supplies are drawn down; a processor or ethanol plant short of grain can flip that locally at any time. For the long-run picture by region, see the national basis vs normal view built from USDA reports.
