About These Reports

WASDE Report

World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates. Monthly global crop and livestock supply/demand balance. Released around the 10th of each month at 12:00 PM ET.

HIGH— Moves corn/soy 10–40¢

Prospective Plantings

Farmer survey of intended spring planting acres for corn, soybeans, and wheat. Released late March. Sets the tone for the entire marketing year ahead.

EXTREME— Major price mover

Acreage Report

Actual planted and harvested acreage for major crops from the June 1 survey. Often the largest single-day price mover of the entire crop year.

EXTREME— Biggest mover of crop year

Crop Production (Aug)

The August report delivers the first field-survey-based yield estimate for corn and soybeans, replacing model-based forecasts. Highest-impact supply report of the year.

EXTREME— Most market-moving of year

Grain Stocks (Sep 1)

September 1 inventory is the most critical of the four quarterly grain stocks reports. Sets the baseline for beginning-of-year carry-out estimates and new-crop pricing direction.

EXTREME— Critical carry-out signal

Grain Stocks (Dec/Mar/Jun)

Quarterly inventory of corn, soybeans, wheat, sorghum, and oats on farms and in commercial facilities. December, March, and June reports track mid-marketing-year pace.

HIGH— Quarterly carry-out signal

Crop Progress

Weekly condition ratings (Excellent/Good/Fair/Poor/VP) and planting or harvest progress by state. Released Mondays at 4:00 PM ET from April through November.

MODERATE— G/E % moves prices

Export Sales

Weekly net sales of corn, soybeans, and wheat to foreign buyers. Released Thursdays at 8:30 AM ET by USDA FAS. Large China purchases routinely move futures at release.

MODERATE— China sales = high impact
