THE NUMBER
91%
soybean meal's spot in its 52-week range
Meal is near a 52-week high while soybeans themselves sit well below theirs, a sign the crush margin is carrying the soy complex, not bean demand.
Corn and beans wait on export sales
  • Corn is at $4.80, down three quarters of a cent from Wednesday's $4.80¾ settle.
  • Beans are at $12.73¼, down 4 cents, with soybean meal up 1.0% to $368.30 while soybean oil fell 0.9% to $66.47.
  • Weekly export sales print Thursday at 7:30 a.m. CT, and nothing in the numbers above reflects it yet.
Meal keeps pulling the soy complex while the raw bean price goes nowhere.
Cattle and hogs ease back slightly
  • Live cattle are at $223.90, down 0.3% from Wednesday's $224.62 settle, and feeders are at $340.95, down 0.6%.
  • Hogs are nearly flat at $75.55, just below Wednesday's $75.60.
  • No report or news explains the pullback, it looks like normal give-back after weeks of gains.
Small give-back after a long climb, nothing more.
Crude slips as Trump weighs easing tanker sanctions
  • WTI crude is at $93.80 overnight, down 1.4% from Wednesday's $95.09 settle.
  • The pullback follows word that the administration may ease sanctions on tankers moving Russian, Iranian and Venezuelan oil, adding supply to a tight tanker market.
Crude easing hasn't reached diesel yet, and diesel is what farmers actually buy.
TODAY'S WATCH LIST
  • Thu 7:30 a.m. CTExport sales report. Soybean sales under 1.5 MMT would look soft against the current price.
  • OngoingDiesel above $6 even as crude eases below $94 would widen the input-cost gap further.
  • OngoingCorn back under $4.78 would say harvest supply is starting to weigh on the board.
OUTSIDE THE PITNot moving prices today, but worth knowing.
