EPA wants to reallocate all of 2025's exempted biofuel volumes back into the mandate, a win for corn-based ethanol demand if it holds.
Corn and wheat drift, beans firm
  • Corn is at $4.81½ overnight, down 1¼ cents from Tuesday's $4.82¾ settle, still digesting last week's WASDE.
  • Chicago wheat slipped 3 cents to $6.66¼ while soybeans gained 6¾ cents to $12.90½.
  • CME says corn futures set a daily volume record, a sign of how much trade has moved through this market since Friday's report.
Beans are the one leg of the complex still finding buyers this week.
Crude pushes toward $95 on Hormuz threats
  • WTI is at $95.36 overnight, up 1.3% from Tuesday's $94.14, after Iran signaled new tactics for tanker strikes in the Strait of Hormuz.
  • This is the same Iran-Hormuz cycle that flared in July, cooled through August, and is now showing signs of life again.
Diesel costs for fall fieldwork move with this, not with the grain board.
TODAY'S WATCH LIST
  • Thursday 7:30 a.m. CTWeekly export sales; soybean bookings tied to China's purchase pace are the number to watch.
  • OngoingWTI above $95 for more than a couple sessions would say the Hormuz premium is building again, not fading.
  • OngoingCorn back under $4.80 would confirm harvest supply, not the WASDE bounce, is setting the tone.
OUTSIDE THE PITNot moving prices today, but worth knowing.
