Non-irrigated cash rent in Wake County averages $83 per acre in 2026, up 38.3 percent from 2014. Census land value stood at $14,718 per acre in 2022, up 26.2 percent from 2017, and cash rent that year was 0.55 percent of that value. The July nightly low has warmed to 70.1 F over 2017-2026 against a 1991-2020 normal of 68.9 F, with a warming trend of 0.66 F per decade since 1976. Heat and drought caused 38 percent of crop insurance indemnities across closed years 1989-2025, and that share moved unevenly by period: 26 percent in 1989-1999, 49 percent in 2000-2009, 36 percent in 2010-2019, 44 percent in 2020-2025.
