CRUDE DROPS 3.5% AS GRAINS GRIND HIGHER ON NO NEWS
THE ACTION
Crude under $89.37 and falling: lock any diesel needs now, this Gulf-flow story isn't done unwinding.
Corn held $5.00 flat, beans ticked up to $12.77, and crude fell 3.5% to $89.37 on Gulf export flow that's actually working this time. That's the real story today: oil giving back the fear premium while grains just sit there, unbothered.

↺ YESTERDAY'S CALL DIDN'T
Called corn up toward $5.09 ($5.0375 when the call was made). It closed at $5.0.
Corn never got near $5.09; it sat flat at $5.00 all session, the breakout thesis stalled cold.
Crude Gives Back More GroundMEDIUM CONVICTION
- WTI fell 3.5% to $89.37, the second straight session lower as Gulf export flows rebound and take the fear premium out of the barrel.
- Oilprice.com reports Brent holding above $102 even as U.S. troop movements continue, the rebound in Persian Gulf flows is simply outweighing the headlines.
Gulf flows are breaking the fear premium faster than geopolitics can rebuild it.
Grains Sit On Their HandsLOW CONVICTION
- Corn closed flat at $5.00, beans added a penny to $12.77, wheat was the mover at $6.86, up 1%.
- Feedstuffs called Thursday's bean cuts 'moderate'; today's bounce looks like position-squaring, not new demand.
- World Grain flagged winter crop dryness easing, which takes a little weather premium out of the wheat board even as it firms.
No fresh catalyst; the board is waiting on the next data point, not trading one.
Cattle Firm, Cull Cows Don'tMEDIUM CONVICTION
- Live cattle ticked up to $219.35, feeders ran 0.8% higher to $339.30, but the cull cow market is the one actually breaking down.
- Beef Magazine reports cull cow values falling sharply on rising slaughter and drought-driven liquidation, a different animal than the fed cattle trade.
Fed cattle strength is masking real stress lower in the cow herd.
TODAY'S WATCH LIST
- Monday 3:00 PM CTCrop Progress; corn harvest pace above 50% keeps basis at seasonal lows, below 35% firms it fast.
- Thursday 7:30 AM CTExport sales; beans above 1.5MMT keeps $12.77 as support, below 1MMT tests the range lower.
- OngoingWTI below $87.50 next session confirms the Gulf-flow unwind is real, not a one-day fade.
OUTSIDE THE PITNot moving prices today, but worth knowing.
