Non-irrigated cash rent in Richland County runs $33 per acre in 2026, up 40.4 percent from 2016. Irrigated ground rents higher, at $143 per acre, though only 14 percent of harvested cropland carries irrigation, and none of that water comes from groundwater. Corn yields show the risk under dry conditions: a median of 132.5 bushels per acre from 2008-2016, falling to 89.4 in 2012. Crop insurance backs this up.
