THE ACTION

↺ YESTERDAY'S CALL PLAYED OUT
Called crude down toward $91.50 ($92.97 when the call was made). It closed at $89.8.
Crude closed $89.80, down 3.4% on the day, not the level called, but Iran diplomacy hope is now pushing it back up, not down.
Grains Fade The China PopMEDIUM CONVICTION
- Corn rallied over 15 cents and beans gained 24 cents overnight on hopes for a US-China trade deal, then both gave it back, corn settling $5.38 and beans $13.19, both down on the day.
- That's a classic buy-the-rumor, sell-the-fact pattern under China's $17 billion annual purchase commitment, headlines move the screen, follow-through is another question.
The overnight pop was the story; the close erased it.
Cattle Ignore The Grain FadeHIGH CONVICTION
- Live cattle closed $221.15, up 2.4%, decoupling completely from the soft grain tape on record low September placements into feedlots.
- AgWeb is already asking if this pulls fund buying into the complex; feeders followed at $337.80, up 1.3%.
Cattle trading its own supply story, ignoring grain and crude entirely.
Crude Reverses On Iran HopeMEDIUM CONVICTION
- WTI closed $89.80, down 3.4%, but that's a session where crude reversed higher late on hope for US-Iran diplomacy ahead of the UN General Assembly.
- The Iran-Hormuz cycle, a July re-escalation that's since cooled, is getting another headline test; Treasury is threatening to ground Iranian airlines, which cuts the other way.
Crude and diesel are still decoupled; today's headlines don't change fuel bills.
TODAY'S WATCH LIST
- Wed 1PM CTBeef Magazine fall/winter weather webinar; drought outlook shift changes fall fieldwork math.
- This weekCattle above $222 pulls fresh fund money in; below $219 says today's pop was a one-day squeeze.
- This weekCorn holding above $5.35 keeps the China-hope bid alive; a close under it says the rally was rumor only.
